Meat and poultry

Raw meat, like chicken, often carries germs that can spread easily to other foods and surfaces. After handling raw meat, wash the counters and utensils with hot, soapy water. It's best to use different cutting boards just for meat. Cook meat all the way through until it's hot inside to kill any germs — especially for chicken, burgers, sausages and kebabs.

Keep raw meat away from other foods , like bread and salad, so germs don't get on them. Store raw meat in a sealed container on the bottom shelf of the fridge to keep it from dripping on other foods. There is actually no need to wash raw chicken because cooking it will get rid of any germs, and washing it could spread germs around.
